Marc Wolff Founder, Legendary Airliners LLC President, Diversity Pro The dream for the HFF was born with Legendary Airliners' purchase of the original Eastern DC-7B from Joe Coucer in Minneapolis in the spring of 2004. Carlos Gomez, and Marc Wolff recognized the urgent need to preserve this historically significant aircraft, and purchased it, not knowing exactly how they would get it done. Get it done they did, though, and by August the ferry flight was underway. Had it not been for their personal sacrifices and monetary support, the last surviving passenger DC-7B would not have made it past the re-cyclers torch. Marc made the comment that at some future date, he would stand next to his young son, and say "We saved this for you and all that follow. " Amen. Over the last several years of working on the DC-7, and watching the other DC-7, DC-4, and DC-6 freighters operate out of Opa-locka we started thinking about what a unique group of aircraft we had operating in this one place. We started to ask each other if it would not be great to re-paint not just N836D, but all the cargo planes Carlos was running!

Founder, Legendary Airliners LLC Owner, Florida Air Transport As the DC-7B project proceeded and we began to see the "light at the end of the tunnel" we were struck with the dream of not only painting but restoring all these planes to passenger configuration. As luck would have it, the FAA had recognized the need to allow "living history" flights for the purpose of an aircraft to raise money for its up keep and preservation. This is one of the best examples of "Hi, I am from the Government, and I am here to help you" we could have ever dreamed of. One of the requirements was that the planes needed to belong to a 501(c)3 tax exempt organization, and so was born the Historical Flight Foundation, Inc.
The Eastern DC-7B is the number one aircraft in our collection. We expect to have the DC-4 added to the collection prior to the end of 2009. With a little luck, the DC-6 should be acquired by late 2009. Both of these aircraft will be converted to passenger configuration, and put on tour.
In addition to being painted in original airline schemes, the fully functional interiors are re-creating the magic, glamor and adventure of air travel of the past. All aircraft will be available to tour the U.S., Latin America, and Europe.
The HFF will be working closely with other aviation museums, schools, and foundations to inspire, educate, and interest people in the rich history of commercial aviation. We will demonstrate the ideals, fundamentals, and innovative thinking of the past to inspire a new generation for the design and development of technology in aviation for the future.
The Historical Flight Foundation is a NON-PROFIT organization under IRS Code 501(c)3.
